3M's: Mura, and Muri Muda

3M's: Mura, and Muri Muda

The 3 M's refer to losses in the production process that should be eliminated. It is from the moment they are identified that starts the application of tools for improvement.

Mura: Lack of pace in an operation
Are the ups and downs in the schedule due to the lack of pace of the machines, with peak hours of intense work and then during idle.

Muri: Overload
Is operator overloading and machines making work always with the maximum capacity.

Muda: Everything that does not add value
Also known as TIMWOOD or "7 Wastes" are all activities that do not add any value to the goods produced.

The 7 Wastes

T - Transport (Transport) is related to the unnecessary transport of materials;

I - Inventory (stock or inventory) is the loss in form of all material that is in stock;

M - Movement (Drive): They are all unnecessary movement by operators in the
execution of an operation;

W - Waiting (Waiting) is wasted waiting for operators waiting for something, or
material stopped expecting some sort of processing;

O - Over Production (Excess Production) is considered the greatest of all waste,
because it can directly affect other as inventory, waiting, beyond the hidden costs
are derived primarily at this stage. Are losses of excess production to produce other
without order, and overproduction in advance

O - Over Processing (Excess Processing) are processes that could be eliminated
without affecting the characteristics and functions of the product.

D - Defect (Default): it is not the loss of quality products that had to be scrapped or
reworked.

Some studies indicate a new waste: Intellectual, which is considered a waste not to
give importance to the intelligence of any team member.
